Light Drawing Photography Workshops

  • I have produced this workshop with families in various arts organisations as a drop-in activity, and and found it innovative because it can be easily adapted to meet various contexts and requirements. From small-scale intimate sessions, to group performances, there are so many possibilities for future developments in this technique. Digital art means I can produce various outputs, including capability of moving image and other dynamic possibilities for further projects

  • In any darkened space, I can set up my camera, laptop and sometimes if space permits a projector or screen, which provides a live feed of the images produced, so participants can see their progress and work together to create dynamic imagery. I like to work with an assistant/volunteer to welcome and discuss the activity with participants, hand out light toys, and help take details for photography permission forms and email address/social media details to be able to share with them the images created.

  • The lights provided as drawing tools are used to create colourful, abstract forms, images or even writing. Participants can also have the choice to use the flash so their faces are included and so the images become energetic original portraits. Combining elements of drawing, contemporary dance and performance generates a confidence boosting experience, especially as participatory element encourages involvement regardless of artistic ability. Using physical movement creatively is not only great for fuelling the imagination, but helps promote physical well being in a fun and unique context. The activity has produced a real feel good response from everyone who I have worked with, especially when collaborating together to create a multi-layered dynamic image involving teamwork. Participants of all ages have always left with a smile!
